On May 15, 2026, Uganda's Ministry of Health confirmed an outbreak of Ebola Bundibugyo Virus Disease following the death of a 59-year-old Congolese male. The patient was admitted to Kibuli Muslim Hospital in Kampala on May 11, exhibiting severe symptoms including respiratory distress, fever, and bleeding. Despite receiving intensive care, he succumbed to the illness on May 14, and his body was transported back to the Democratic Republic of Congo later that evening. In response to the situation, the Ministry of Health initiated testing of a sample taken from the deceased, which confirmed the presence of the Ebola virus, prompting the government to seek international assistance for containment and response efforts.
