The World Food Programme (WFP) has officially ceased operations at the Nduta Refugee Camp, which had been home to over 60,000 Burundian refugees since its establishment on October 1, 2015, following its closure on April 30, 2026. WFP will now concentrate its efforts on the Nyarugusu Camp, which currently accommodates 107,968 refugees, including 20,779 from Burundi. On April 16, 2026, WFP conducted its first strategic quarterly donor briefing of the year, engaging 15 donors to discuss updates on various programs, including refugee response, resilience, nutrition, and school feeding initiatives. Additionally, the recent surge in fuel prices in Tanzania, attributed to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and rising global fuel costs, has raised concerns about its potential impact on operations and food security, with fuel prices increasing by 33 percent in April and further rising in May.
