Operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command successfully neutralized a suspected kidnapping kingpin during an operation in the Orile Ilugun Forest area, located along the Abeokuta–Ibadan Expressway. The operation, which was intelligence-led, resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with 20 rounds of ammunition, N2 million in cash, and two mobile phones. This action followed the rescue of a kidnapping victim who had been abducted on May 14, 2026, and released unharmed four days later. During the operation on May 19, 2026, the police engaged in a gunfight with the kidnappers, leading to the death of the kingpin, while other gang members escaped with injuries. The deceased's body has been taken to a morgue for autopsy, and police efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.
