The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, emphasized the need for strict enforcement against vote buying and trading during a presentation of the voters' register to political parties in Ekiti State. He urged security agencies to arrest and prosecute individuals involved in these illegal activities, which he identified as a significant challenge to the electoral process. The register, which now includes approximately 1,059,360 eligible voters, was presented ahead of the June 20 governorship election, marking a critical step in ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral system. Prof. Amupitan also called on political parties to review the register and engage in responsible campaigning, highlighting the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in upholding democratic principles during the election.
