WHO ramps up support to the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Ebola outbreak response

The World Health Organization (WHO) is enhancing its support for the Democratic Republic of the Congo's response to the Ebola outbreak declared on May 15, 2026, in Ituri Province. In a rapid response effort, WHO has delivered 11.5 tonnes of essential medical supplies and equipment within 72 hours and deployed over 35 experts and first responders to assist local health authorities. Collaborative efforts with partner organizations, including the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), have facilitated the timely transport of supplies, while additional materials are en route to bolster ongoing operations. The outbreak, caused by the Ebola Bundibugyo virus, has been classified as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern, prompting a coordinated international response focused on public health measures and community engagement.
