The United Kingdom has committed up to £20 million to assist in the containment of the Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). This funding will support a DRC-led response, enhancing disease surveillance, bolstering frontline health workers, and improving infection prevention measures. The UK Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, is set to co-chair a ministerial group aimed at coordinating the government’s response, which includes collaboration with the World Health Organization and various international partners. The UK Health Security Agency is also monitoring travel routes from affected areas to the UK and has activated the Returning Workers Scheme to ensure the health of individuals traveling to those regions.
