The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has mandated that all food delivery, app-based transport, and logistics platforms in Nigeria provide health insurance coverage for independent contractors and self-employed individuals associated with their services. This directive aligns with the presidential mandate issued in September 2025, which emphasizes the necessity of compulsory health insurance. The NHIA aims to ensure adherence to the NHIA Act 2022, which stipulates that health insurance is mandatory for all Nigerians and legal residents, thereby promoting broader access to healthcare services within the gig economy.
