A High Court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has sentenced Ndifreke Isaiah Nelson, aged 33, to death for the murder of his girlfriend, Emem Monday Effanga. The court found Nelson guilty on May 20, 2026, of a two-count charge that included murder and theft. The incident occurred on February 6, 2025, when Nelson allegedly attacked Effanga at her residence during a struggle over her phone, resulting in her death. Following the crime, he fled with the victim's phone but was apprehended two days later during a night vigil at a church, where he confessed to the murder during interrogation.
