In Yemen, approximately 50% of the population residing in areas controlled by the Government of Yemen is facing high levels of acute food insecurity, exacerbated by an ongoing economic crisis and localized violence. Between March and May 2026, nearly 5 million individuals are projected to experience IPC Phase 3 or higher, indicating crisis conditions or worse, with 1.4 million classified under IPC Phase 4, which denotes emergency levels of food insecurity. Although there has been a slight seasonal improvement in food availability compared to the previous period, these gains are deemed insufficient to counteract the persistent economic challenges. Projections indicate that the situation is likely to worsen during the June to September lean season, with an anticipated increase to 5.4 million people in need of urgent assistance, highlighting the critical reliance on external humanitarian aid and the fragility of local economic systems.
