Stakeholders have expressed concerns that inadequate and expensive transportation infrastructure throughout Africa could hinder the economic benefits anticipated from the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The AfCFTA aims to create a unified market for 1.4 billion people and a collective GDP exceeding $3.4 trillion. During discussions at the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, experts highlighted the critical need for improved transport links to facilitate trade and enhance economic integration across the continent. They emphasized that without significant investment in transport infrastructure, the potential gains from the AfCFTA may not be fully realized.
