Iliman Ndiaye, the Everton winger representing Senegal, has reaffirmed the national team's belief in their status as the rightful champions of Africa, despite the ongoing dispute regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title. Following Senegal's victory over Morocco in the AFCON final, which ended 1-0 after extra time, controversy arose when several Senegalese players protested a late penalty awarded to Morocco, leading to an appeals board ruling that Senegal had breached tournament regulations. This decision, which awarded the title to Morocco, has been challenged by Senegal's football federation at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Ndiaye emphasized that the team remains focused on their preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, undeterred by the controversy, and expressed hope for a resolution that would positively reflect on African football.
