Family members, colleagues, and sympathisers gathered on Friday in Ogbomoso to pay their final respects to Joel Adesiyan, a teacher who was killed during a recent attack on schools in Oyo State. The burial service took place at Ayegun Baptist Church, where mourners expressed their grief as Adesiyan's remains were brought into the church. The attack on May 15 involved gunmen on motorcycles who invaded communities along the Ahoro-Esiele/Yawota axis, abducting dozens of students and seven teachers, including Adesiyan, who served as an assistant headmaster at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele. The Oyo State Government confirmed that during this incident, Adesiyan and a commercial motorcyclist were shot dead, while the fate of the remaining abducted individuals remains a matter of concern following conflicting reports about their release.
