In April 2026, the World Food Programme (WFP) provided assistance to 176,949 individuals in Rwanda, distributing 224 metric tons of food and cash-based transfers totaling USD 551,549. Due to funding limitations, WFP has been compelled to reduce food rations to 50 percent for all targeted refugees and Rwandan returnees, amidst a significant increase in vulnerability among these populations, with 76 percent classified as highly vulnerable as of December 2025. To maintain its operations through October 2026, WFP requires USD 13.1 million, with an urgent need for USD 11.5 million to continue essential food assistance. Additionally, a socio-economic profiling exercise was launched in collaboration with MINEMA, UNHCR, and the World Bank, aiming to gather data on approximately 28,668 refugee households to inform future support strategies.
