In May 2026, the World Food Programme (WFP) reported ongoing relief efforts in Malawi in response to the severe flooding that impacted the country in March. The floods affected approximately 368,000 individuals across 23 district and city councils, displacing 81,842 households. In April alone, WFP successfully reached nearly 1.2 million people, providing essential assistance through the distribution of 1,336 metric tons of food and facilitating cash-based transfers totaling USD 2.41 million. The collaborative efforts between the WFP and the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) aim to support those severely affected by the disaster.
