Brian Ogbo, a 39-year-old Nigerian man residing in Ireland, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for the manslaughter of his 82-year-old grandmother, Stella Nnadi. The Cork Circuit Criminal Court heard that the incident occurred during a severe psychotic episode on February 23, 2025, shortly after Ogbo had moved to Ireland to reunite with his family. Evidence presented in court indicated that Ogbo had been struggling with schizophrenia and had missed crucial anti-psychotic medication, which contributed to his unstable mental state at the time of the incident. Following the attack, Nnadi was initially unharmed but later succumbed to injuries from blunt force trauma, leading to her death two days later. The court acknowledged the systemic failures in mental health care that may have contributed to the tragedy and mandated that Ogbo engage with mental health services following his release.
