On May 23, 2026, moderate to heavy rainfall in Timor-Leste led to increased river water levels and subsequent flooding in several villages, including Sikoni, Tazhilin, Beco, and Kasabauk. In response, the Cruz Vermelha de Timor-Leste (CVTL), alongside the Fire Department and Civil Protection Authority (CPA), initiated evacuations of affected communities to safer areas. Rapid assessments were conducted to evaluate the needs of the impacted households, revealing that while some families experienced damage to clothing and important documents, the structural integrity of homes remained largely intact. Additionally, road access issues due to landslides hindered assessment efforts, prompting immediate public works interventions to restore movement in affected regions.
