The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has announced the development of an Anticipatory Action Framework for Cholera in Mozambique, aimed at addressing the endemic public health threat posed by cholera outbreaks in the country. The framework seeks to facilitate rapid and coordinated responses to prevent large-scale outbreaks, particularly in the most affected provinces of Cabo Delgado, Nampula, Sofala, and Tete, where access to safe water and sanitation remains limited. Triggered by specific epidemiological data, the framework outlines a series of priority interventions, including enhanced surveillance, case management, water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives, as well as community engagement strategies. This proactive approach is designed to mitigate the impact of cholera, which has seen a significant rise in cases, with over 48,700 reported during the largest outbreak in two decades from September 2022 to July 2024.
