Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi has expressed deep concern over the plight of Nigerians living abroad, particularly in South Africa, where many are facing xenophobic attacks. During a dinner for NDC aspirants in Abuja, Obi revealed that numerous Nigerians prefer to remain in South Africa, even under dire circumstances, rather than return to Nigeria, citing worse conditions at home. He highlighted his recent discussions with South African political leaders, including former President Thabo Mbeki, aimed at improving relations between South Africans and other African nationals. Obi criticized the Nigerian government for its lack of support for citizens facing hardships abroad and lamented the country's deteriorating security situation, emphasizing the need for better governance to ensure the safety and well-being of Nigerians both at home and abroad.
