Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emerged as a frontrunner in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries for the 2027 election, securing victories in at least five states. The results from the nationwide direct primaries indicate a strong performance in states such as Zamfara, Yobe, Sokoto, and Gombe, where he achieved a notable win in Gombe with 139,334 votes, significantly outpacing his competitors, Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen. The primaries, which are being conducted through direct voting at ward levels, feature three candidates: Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen. As results continue to be compiled, Atiku's early lead positions him favorably in the race to become the ADC's presidential candidate for the upcoming general election.
