In response to a series of kidnapping incidents in Oyo State, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered the deployment of special forces and aerial surveillance drones to the region. This initiative aims to enhance search-and-rescue operations and restore security in areas affected by the recent abductions, including the kidnapping of 39 students and seven teachers from the Ahoro Esinele community. During a media briefing, Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, conveyed the military's condolences to the victims' families and assured that troops would maintain a strong presence until the kidnappers are apprehended. The Defence Headquarters has attributed these attacks to dislodged terrorists from other regions, while also reporting significant operational successes nationwide in May, including the arrest of 314 suspects and the rescue of 221 kidnapped civilians.
