As of May 25, 2026, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has reported over 100 confirmed cases of Ebola, resulting in 10 confirmed deaths, alongside more than 900 suspected cases and 220 suspected deaths. The outbreak, attributed to the Bundibugyo strain of the virus, originated in Ituri province and has since spread to North Kivu and South Kivu provinces, with Uganda also confirming seven cases and one death. Concerns regarding cross-border transmission are heightened due to the DRC's porous borders with several neighboring countries, including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan. In response to the outbreak, the International Medical Corps has deployed rapid response teams to various locations in the DRC and Uganda, establishing Ebola Treatment Centers and providing essential hygiene supplies, while also conducting preparedness training in South Sudan.
