The Importers Association of Nigeria (IMAN) has expressed strong opposition to the recent hike in port tariffs and terminal charges imposed by shipping lines and terminal operators. According to the association, the cost of clearing a 20-foot container has risen to N7 million in Benin and N15 million in other parts of Nigeria. IMAN warns that these increases could exacerbate economic difficulties, deter potential investments, and diminish Nigeria's competitiveness in the regional trade landscape. The association's Board of Trustees, along with its branches nationwide, is actively voicing concerns over the implications of these financial burdens on importers and the broader economy.
