The first flight carrying Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa due to rising anti-immigrant tensions was reported to be en route to Accra on Wednesday, as confirmed by Ghana’s foreign ministry. Approximately 800 Ghanaians are expected to be repatriated, with the initial flight transporting around 300 individuals. Fred Duhoe, an aide to the foreign minister, noted that although there was a delay, the flight took off shortly after 11:00 am local time. The Ghanaian government has committed to providing financial and psycho-social support to those returning, as the country grapples with a surge of xenophobic violence that has sparked protests against foreign nationals in South Africa.
