Between 19 and 25 May 2026, significant humanitarian challenges were reported across Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and China. In China, heavy rainfall from 17 to 18 May led to flash floods and landslides in Chongqing Municipality, prompting the evacuation of 697 individuals and the relocation of 1,444 others as authorities initiated rescue operations and activated a Level-IV emergency response. In Afghanistan, flash floods on 22 May resulted in the deaths of five individuals, including a Danish Refugee Council staff member, and caused extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture, affecting hundreds of families in Laghman Province and surrounding areas. Meanwhile, Bangladesh faced a measles outbreak with over 8,000 confirmed cases and more than 57,000 suspected cases reported as of 20 May, predominantly among children under five, despite a successful vaccination campaign that reached over 18.3 million children. Humanitarian partners are actively engaged in response efforts, including the deployment of health workers and the provision of medical supplies, while authorities are considering extending vaccination efforts to underserved regions.
