Between July 21 and July 30, 2025, the Lao People's Democratic Republic experienced severe flooding, flash floods, and landslides due to heavy rainfall linked to Tropical Depression Wipha. The northern and central provinces, including Vientiane and Khammouane, were particularly affected, with significant damage reported in Hinboun District, where 13 villages and over 335 families were impacted, and agricultural losses were substantial. The United Nations reported that flooding submerged homes and disrupted transportation, with total damages in Khammouane Province estimated at over LAK 1.2 billion. Authorities issued alerts for rising water levels along the Mekong River, urging communities in vulnerable areas to prepare for potential further flooding and landslides, while ongoing recovery efforts aimed to restore basic services and support affected livelihoods.
