In response to the ongoing outbreak of Ebola disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, the World Health Organization (WHO) has convened expert advisory groups to evaluate potential treatments and vaccines. These groups have identified several candidate therapeutics, including monoclonal antibodies and antiviral medications, which are recommended for clinical trials to ensure safety and efficacy. Additionally, promising vaccine candidates have been highlighted, with the single-dose rVSV Bundibugyo vaccine being prioritized for future assessment. WHO is collaborating with the governments of both countries to facilitate research and ensure that all evaluations adhere to ethical standards while emphasizing the importance of established Ebola response measures.
