The Ituri Solutions and Mobility Index, released in April 2026 by the International Organization for Migration, assesses the stability of communities in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. The findings indicate that while 82% of residents feel safe and 95% do not anticipate moving soon, the overall stability remains fragile, with a composite index score of 0.65 out of 1. Notably, areas such as Mahagi and Aru demonstrate higher stability, whereas Tchomia faces significant challenges, particularly in living standards and access to public services. The report highlights that despite relatively strong security and social cohesion, critical issues such as limited electricity access, poor water availability, and inadequate health services persist, exacerbated by a new Ebola outbreak declared in May 2026, which threatens long-term stability in the region.
