Police Arrest Passenger Found With Ammunition in Edo

The Edo State Police Command reported the arrest of a passenger found in possession of 36 live cartridges during a routine stop-and-search operation in Benin City. The incident occurred on May 23, 2026, when officers stopped a minibus carrying seven passengers at Guobadia Junction along the Benin–Auchi Road. Upon noticing the police, three male passengers attempted to flee, but one, identified as Richard Gabriel, aged 36 from Ovia South-West Local Government Area, was apprehended. A subsequent search of Gabriel's belongings revealed the concealed ammunition, prompting the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to commend the officers for their diligence and reaffirm the command's commitment to maintaining public safety.
