The World Bank Board of Executive Directors has approved a significant social protection project aimed at enhancing Ukraine's social assistance framework, benefiting over one million individuals. The initiative, known as the Social Protection Project for Inclusion, Resilience, Innovation, and Transformation (SPIRIT), will support the Ukrainian government in implementing reforms that modernize social assistance by linking cash benefits to employment and social services. With a total funding of $880 million, including contributions from various international partners, the project seeks to consolidate fragmented benefit programs into a unified Basic Social Assistance program and transition to a person-centered disability support system. Additionally, the reforms are designed to strengthen the capacity of social service providers and align Ukraine's social policies with European Union standards, thereby advancing the country's EU accession agenda.
