Kanyinsola Ajayi has set a new Nigerian national record in the men's 100m at the 2026 NCAA Division I East First Round track and field meet, finishing the race in 9.84 seconds. This remarkable performance, which took place during one of the quarter-final heats, surpasses the previous record of 9.85 seconds held by Olusoji Fasuba since May 2006. Ajayi's achievement not only establishes him as the fastest collegiate athlete in the United States but also positions him as the second-fastest in history, as he approaches Christian Coleman's NCAA record of 9.82 seconds. Additionally, Samuel Ogazi made headlines by breaking the national record in the men's 400m with a time of 43.82 seconds, further highlighting the success of Nigerian athletes at the meet.
