Protest in FUTO as Man O’ War operatives allegedly torture 100-level student to death

Tensions escalated at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) on Saturday following the alleged torture of a 100-level cybersecurity student, Chibuzor Chinedu, by operatives of the Man O’ War. Reports indicate that Chinedu was arrested over accusations of theft involving a sum of N13,000 and subsequently endured hours of physical abuse, which ultimately led to his death. In response to the incident, students organized a violent protest, resulting in the destruction of Man O’ War facilities on campus. University officials, including the dean of student affairs and the president of the Students’ Union Government, attempted to address the protesters, but demands for the complete dissolution of the Man O’ War unit persisted. The police have confirmed the incident and stated that a tactical team has been deployed to the university, with several arrests made in connection to the case.
