In response to the recent abduction of pupils and teachers from several schools in Oyo State, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has authorized the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to enhance security in the region. A Federal Government delegation visited the affected communities of Esiele and Yawota on May 31, 2026, to assess the situation and provide support. The delegation emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring the safety of students and educational institutions following the incident that occurred on May 15, 2026. This initiative aims to bolster security measures and prevent future occurrences of such abductions.
