The budget office of the federation has reported that the federal government incurred N3.41 trillion in debt servicing during the third quarter of 2025, which is N171.9 billion or 4.8 percent less than the anticipated N3.58 trillion. The report indicated that while domestic debt servicing expenditures exceeded projections by 6.18 percent, totaling N1.8 trillion, external debt servicing fell short by 12.55 percent, amounting to N1.69 trillion. Additionally, total government expenditure for the quarter was N8.03 trillion, a significant decrease of 41.57 percent from the quarterly budget estimate, yet it represented a 4.86 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024. The report also highlighted a fiscal deficit of N330 billion for Q3 2025, which was substantially lower than the projected deficit of N3.53 trillion and well within the acceptable GDP ratio threshold.
