Okey Ikoro, the National Chairman of the Vegetable/Edible Oil Producers Association of Nigeria (VEOPAN), has reported that over 100 imported vegetable oil brands continue to dominate the local market, despite the Federal Government's ban on such imports as part of its 2026 fiscal policy measures. Ikoro attributed this ongoing issue to a failure in enforcement by key regulatory bodies, including the Nigeria Customs Service, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), and the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON). He emphasized the need for these agencies to strengthen their enforcement mechanisms to protect local producers and ensure compliance with the prohibition.
