Troops from the 12 Brigade, 2 Division of the Nigerian Army successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State on May 30, 2026. Acting on credible intelligence regarding a planned operation by terrorists in the Jakura II community, the soldiers set up an ambush at a suspected crossing point along the Old Obajana–Tajimi Road. During the ensuing firefight, one terrorist was neutralized, while others escaped with injuries. A subsequent search of the area resulted in the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, five magazines, 70 rounds of ammunition, and mobile phones, which indicated the gang's involvement in local kidnapping activities. The Commander of the 12 Brigade, Brig Gen Kasim Umar Sidi, praised the troops for their dedication and urged the public to continue providing timely information to assist security efforts.
