On May 15, 2026, the Ministry of Public Health in the Democratic Republic of the Congo announced an outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Ituri Province, with the World Health Organization reporting a rapid increase in suspected cases from 513 to 883 within one week. As of May 25, the death toll had reached 220, and the outbreak has since expanded to more than three provinces, prompting the gradual closure of borders to prevent further spread. This situation has created significant challenges for humanitarian efforts, as supply shortages are exacerbated by the fragile health infrastructure and ongoing armed conflict in the region. In response, Acted, which has been operating in the DRC for over 20 years, has mobilized its staff to implement emergency measures, including the installation of handwashing stations, rehabilitation of latrines, distribution of hygiene kits, and community training on hygiene practices to mitigate the outbreak's impact.
