The Democratic Republic of the Congo is currently facing an Ebola outbreak, with the World Health Organization reporting 321 confirmed cases and 116 suspected cases, resulting in 48 confirmed deaths and over 240 suspected fatalities. The outbreak, attributed to the Bundibugyo strain, began in Ituri province and has spread to North Kivu and South Kivu provinces, as well as Uganda, where nine cases and one death have been confirmed. Challenges in case reporting have arisen due to insecurity in Ituri province, where attacks on Ebola Treatment Centers and hospitals have occurred. In response, the International Medical Corps has deployed rapid response teams to various locations, including Ituri, Goma, Kinshasa, and Kampala, to construct treatment centers, provide hygiene supplies, and coordinate with local health authorities to enhance case management and contact tracing efforts.
