World: Governments falling 90 percent short of climate adaptation finance needs, Oxfam warns ahead of Bonn climate talks

Oxfam has issued a warning that governments are falling significantly short of the financial resources needed for climate adaptation, with current funding levels at only $32 billion, which is approximately 90 percent less than the projected requirements of $310 billion to $365 billion for developing countries by 2035. This shortfall leaves vulnerable communities ill-equipped to handle the impacts of climate change, exacerbating global inequalities. The organization emphasizes that wealthy nations must increase their adaptation financing tenfold and implement measures such as taxing the profits of major fossil fuel corporations to generate necessary funds. Oxfam's call to action comes ahead of the Bonn climate talks, where they urge leaders to address the concentration of wealth and power that hinders climate action and to ensure that financial support reaches those most affected by environmental degradation.
