On Thursday, security measures were significantly intensified around the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja in anticipation of a protest organized by activist Omoyele Sowore, who is also the presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC). Anti-riot police established a cordon at the main gates, allowing entry only to individuals with official State House identification while turning away others. The protest, scheduled to commence at 8:00 a.m. under the hashtag #OccupyAsoRock, aims to demand the immediate rescue of abducted schoolchildren from Oyo and Borno States. This demonstration follows recent kidnappings, prompting the federal government to take action, including the deployment of a delegation led by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila and the recruitment of additional forest guards for rescue operations.
