The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has reported that the Ebola virus disease outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus is progressing in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda, with increasing transmission in eastern DRC. The situation is exacerbated by population mobility and cross-border trade, which complicate disease surveillance and response efforts. In light of these challenges, IOM is collaborating with national authorities to enhance preparedness and response measures, focusing on monitoring population movement and strengthening community-based surveillance in high-risk areas. The World Health Organization has classified DRC and Uganda as priority countries for outbreak readiness, emphasizing the need for continued investment in early detection and prevention strategies to mitigate the risk of further transmission.
