Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and publisher of Sahara Reporters, informed the Federal High Court in Abuja that he is currently without legal representation in the defamation case brought against him by the Department of State Services (DSS). This situation arose following a court ruling on June 4, which mandated him to commence his defense immediately or risk losing it. In the absence of his legal team, Sowore presented an oral application requesting Justice Mohammed Garba Umar to recuse himself from the case, citing allegations of bias and unfair trial. While the DSS counsel, Akinlolu Kehinde (SAN), did not oppose the request for recusal, he raised concerns about the potential for extended delays in the proceedings. Justice Umar initially planned to deliver a ruling on June 8 but later postponed it to June 15 in response to Sowore's request.
