Senate President Godswill Akpabio has refuted claims that he assured All Progressives Congress (APC) senators who lost in the party primaries of automatic return tickets. In a statement released by his media aide, Eseme Sunday Eyiboh, Akpabio clarified that his earlier remarks were misinterpreted, emphasizing that he only expressed empathy for the affected senators without making any promises regarding their candidacies. He reiterated that the APC leadership is actively addressing the issues stemming from the primaries and that the final list of candidates will be determined in accordance with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines. Furthermore, Akpabio affirmed his commitment to upholding party discipline and due process, stating that he would not interfere with the party's independent processes or make commitments beyond the authority of the National Assembly leadership.
