The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has released its fifth humanitarian update regarding the situation in Iran, covering the period from May 1 to May 31, 2026. The report highlights a temporary ceasefire that was initially declared on April 7 and has since been extended, although the situation remains precarious with ongoing attacks reported in southern Iran, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz. Cumulative data indicates that over 3,375 civilians have lost their lives, including a significant number of children and women, while more than 33,000 individuals have sustained injuries. The conflict has severely impacted infrastructure, with extensive damage reported to educational facilities, cultural sites, and civilian infrastructure, exacerbating the already critical humanitarian needs for health services, safe water, food, and shelter among the affected populations.
