The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has released Bulletin 572 detailing the current status of the Desert Locust outbreak as of June 6, 2026. In Morocco, several hopper groups and bands have been observed, with numerous immature adult groups forming, while Algeria has reported a few immature adult groups alongside scattered hoppers. The forecast indicates that these hopper groups are expected to fledge, resulting in the formation of more adult groups and small swarms in Morocco, with potential migration towards Algeria and Mauritania. Control operations have intensified, with over 41,000 hectares treated in May, and continued monitoring and surveys are necessary in affected regions and Sahelian countries.
