The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has released a country brief detailing the food security situation in Peru as of June 2026. The report indicates that plantings for the main paddy crop in 2026 are projected to be slightly above average, with the area sown estimated to be 3 percent higher than the five-year average. However, the first quarter harvests are expected to be 11 percent below average due to excessive rainfall, although overall average precipitation in the latter half of the year is anticipated to enhance yields for the minor crop. Additionally, cereal import requirements for 2026 are forecasted to remain above average, driven by sustained domestic demand, while prices for yellow maize, rice, and wheat flour have decreased compared to the previous year.
