The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), representing the Non-Alcoholic Drinks (NAD) sector, has called on the federal government to implement a coordinated and evidence-based approach to excise taxation on sugary drinks. The Association raised concerns regarding proposed substantial increases in taxes on sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) as detailed in the Customs and Excise Tariff etc. (Consolidation) Act (Amendment) Bill 2025. MAN emphasized the need for a balanced strategy that considers the potential impacts on the industry and consumers while addressing public health objectives.
