The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has raised concerns regarding the proposed increase in excise duties on sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs), warning that it could lead to a significant decline in manufacturing output by 33% and the potential loss of 1.5 million jobs. In a statement, MAN emphasized the need for policies that promote healthy consumption while safeguarding the interests of businesses. The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) echoed these sentiments, highlighting the potential adverse effects on the economy if the levy is implemented. Both organizations are advocating for a balanced approach that addresses public health without jeopardizing the manufacturing sector.
