As of 11 May 2026, South Sudan has reported a significant increase in cholera cases, with 158 new suspected cases and one death recorded in the past week, reflecting a 151% rise from the previous week. Over the last 14 days, a total of 304 new cases and three deaths have been documented across nine counties, predominantly in Rubkona, Mayom, Panyijiar, and Ayod. Since the onset of the outbreak on 28 September 2024, the country has seen 103,626 cases and 1,672 deaths, with Unity State bearing the highest burden of cases. The outbreak is currently concentrated in five states, exacerbated by ongoing conflict and inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene conditions, particularly affecting displaced and returning populations.
