The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) has formally responded to allegations made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who described the corporation as a “house of thieves.” During a session of the Senate Public Accounts Committee, former Chief Financial Officer Umar Ajiya clarified that the company spent ₦2.9 billion on its incorporation and rebranding, countering claims that ₦5.8 billion was misappropriated. Ajiya emphasized that NNPC has maintained transparency by publishing audited financial accounts for over 44 years, allowing for public scrutiny and oversight. He asserted that if any funds were missing during their tenure, the company would not have been able to consistently submit reports to the Auditor-General and make them available on their website.
