Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State, has approved a financial assistance program that will grant N1 million to each Imo indigene repatriated from South Africa. This announcement was made by Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), during the reception of the first group of returnees at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The returnees are part of over 1,000 Nigerians who opted for voluntary evacuation due to recent xenophobic violence in South Africa. In addition to the governor's support, private sector contributions and transportation assistance from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have been arranged to facilitate the reintegration of these citizens back into their communities.
